2026-2027 Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) Inspections

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) aims to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses and promotes and enforces employment standards. Each year, provincial health and safety initiatives focus on specific high-risk hazards or topics. This year, the following campaigns will run from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. Workplace inspections begin April 1, 2026.

2026-2027 Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) Inspection – Webinars

Retail Sector Campaign

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) will be conducting an education and inspection campaign for the retail sector until March 31, 2027. Focus areas will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining equipment in good condition
  • Awareness training
  • Material handling concerns
  • Keeping floors free of hazards
  • Administrative responsibilities

To help you prepare, WSPS is offering a free, interactive, 90-minute webinar, co-hosted by MLITSD, on June 16, 2026. It will provide you with an overview of the campaign, including information on what to expect during an inspection, employer obligations, measures that can be taken, and resources available to assist with compliance. Agriculture Sector Campaign

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) will be conducting an education and inspection campaign for the agriculture sector until March 31, 2027. Focus areas will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Machine guarding
  • Operation of farming equipment (such as tractors and forklifts)
  • Electrical hazards and lock out/tag out
  • Falls from heights including falls from equipment
  • Prevention of heat stress

It will provide you with an overview of the campaign, including information on what to expect during an inspection, employer obligations, measures that can be taken, and resources available to assist with compliance. Noise Campaign

From April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) will be conducting a province-wide compliance campaign focused on noise.

Inspections will focus on noise-related hazards where exposure may pose a risk to workers. The goal: to help prevent noise-induced hearing loss – a permanent disability – by ensuring appropriate controls are in place.

To help businesses prepare, a free 90‑minute webinar is being offered on June 24, 2026. Hosted by Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) and an MLITSD occupational hygienist, the session will provide an overview of the campaign as well as offer practical guidance to help businesses achieve compliance. The agenda includes:

  • what to expect during an inspection
  • employer obligations
  • preventative measures
  • support resources
